Theben iON KNX push buttons and room controllers with integrated temperature sensors enable various functions in KNX installations to be triggered at the touch of a button. For example,

  • Switching lights on/off and dimming them
  • Adjusting light colors and calling up lighting scenes
  • Raise and lower blinds
  • Trigger and save user-specific scenes
  • Operating central or group functions

Theben iON KNX push-button sensors are available in various designs: as 1-way (2 buttons), 2-way (4 buttons), and as a room controller with LCD display and Bluetooth interface. Depending on the device, up to 20 functions can be controlled via a single button. iON KNX push buttons are characterized by their extensive functionality and particularly simple operation. The iON 108 KNX room controller with LCD and integrated room temperature controller increases ease of use and convenience thanks to its Bluetooth interface. All push-button sensors have an integrated bus coupler and can be programmed without the ETS app.

Overview of the iON G series

Note: Theben iON KNX push buttons are also available in versions for the LUXORliving smart home system with a reduced range of functions. Configuration is carried out using the free LUXORplug application, and operation via the LUXORplay app.

How are the iON KNX push button sensors mounted and installed?

The KNX push buttons are mounted on standard device boxes using the mounting plate supplied. Combinations of two iON KNX push buttons are possible with a 2-gang mounting plate available as an accessory. The integrated bus coupler makes installation and connection to the KNX bus system quick and easy.

What is important when selecting KNX buttons?

There is a great variety of KNX buttons from different manufacturers. Theben iON KNX tactile sensors are available as 1-way and 2-way KNX tactile sensor and as a KNX room controller with LCD. This allows countless KNX functions in the house to be controlled from a central point if desired. Pay attention to the following functions when selecting the appropriate KNX tactile sensor:

  • Integrated temperature sensor (iON 102 KNX, iON 104 KNX)
A KNX tactile sensor with temperature sensor allows the room temperature to be controlled in conjunction with suitable heating actuators.
  • LED status display (iON 102 KNX, iON 104 KNX)
Coloured status LEDs indicate the current status of the KNX tactile sensor. This allows the status of the external light to be displayed indoors, for example. If desired, the brightness of the status LEDs adjusts itself depending on the surrounding brightness. If the room gets darker, the status LEDs are dimmed automatically, preventing disruptive light interference at night. During the day, the LEDs shine more brightly. This makes them easy to identify in bright ambient light.
  • LC display (iON 108 KNX)
With the iON 108 KNX room controller, a suitable icon can be selected from a library for each of the 20 functions. The icon is supplemented by individual function names (for example "ceiling spots" or "terrace blinds") and the current status (on/off/dimming value/position). This makes the room controller easier to use and navigate. The brightness of the LCD display adjusts itself depending on the surrounding brightness. If the room is dark, the backlight on the display is dimmed, preventing disruptive lighting effects. During the day, the display shines more brightly. So it is easy to read when there is lots of ambient light. Why an LC display instead of a 4K retina display? Very simple: High-end retina displays are brilliant, but not suitable for 24-hour use. For this purpose, LC displays are much more reliable and durable.
  • App operation with pairing via Bluetooth (iON 108 KNX)
Theben iON 108 KNX room controllers can be controlled via Bluetooth using an app. You connect the smartphone or tablet to the button via the integrated Bluetooth module. Access to the secure local network or the Internet is no longer necessary. The duration of pairing can be set individually. Manage up to 30 iON KNX room controllers via app. Visualise and control the 20 functions of the iON 108 KNX in the app. The app control of the iON 108 KNX room controller is ideal for living rooms, meeting rooms or hotels. The guest simply controls the functions of the room himself, from the comfort of his bed. Important: When used in a hotel, the pairing is automatically terminated after an adjustable period.

Which is more suitable: "KNX tactile sensors" or "buttons and switches with a KNX button interface"?

Basically, any conventional button or switch can be integrated into a KNX installation via a KNX button interface. The button interface is mounted in the wall box behind the switch or button. Then it is connected to the KNX bus line and the switch or button. Configuration is carried out via ETS. KNX tactile sensors, such as the Theben iON KNX, typically have a much greater range of functions. From the integrated temperature sensor via the LED status display or an LC display to operation via app, a suitable solution is available for every requirement.
