Paul Sebastian Schwenk takes over as Chairman of the Board of Management at Theben AG and Michael Matthesius is the new Chief Technology Officer

(Haigerloch, 1st of September 2020) Theben AG announces two major personnel changes at senior executive level. Paul Sebastian Schwenk is to take up office as Chairman of the Board of Management from 1 September 2020. Michael Matthesius will take up his position as Chief Technology Officer on the same day.  Theben is a family-run company which was founded in 1921. In making these appointments, it is indicating a clear commitment to strengthening the ability of the company to innovate and adapt to future challenges.

Paul Sebastian Schwenk is the great-grandson of company founder Paul Schwenk. A member of the Board of Management since 2016, his remit has included responsibility for HR, marketing, business development, finance and smart energy. Notable success has been achieved in the area of smart energy in particular, with the significant milestone of BSI certification for the CONEXA 3.0 Performance Smart Meter Gateway opening up huge potential for the future for the company.

Paul Sebastian Schwenk believes that his move to Chairman of the Board is a logical next step: “Taking over as Chairman is not just about stepping up to acknowledge my personal obligations to the company. Family-run companies like Theben with a rich history inspire greater confidence on the market. Now we can play this card more purposefully in the future. I’m really looking forward to working as part of a team with our Chief Sales Officer Thomas Sell and our new board member and CTO Michael Matthesius to continue to write the success story of Theben, which already dates back nearly 100 years.”

The management duo of Paul S. Schwenk and Thomas Sell, who was appointed Chief Sales Officer in 2013, will be joined by Michael Matthesius on 1 September 2020. As the company’s new CTO, Michael Matthesius brings with him many years of both sector-specific and management experience. A graduate of electrical engineering and technical business management, his previous roles include Executive Vice President at Weidmüller Interface GmbH with responsibility for automation products and solutions. Most recently he was Managing Director at the Harting Technology Group with responsibility for IoT solutions business. He has also been a member of the board of the Electrical Automation Association of the VDMA and sat on the advisory committee of the “Mass Customisation – Batch Size 1” conference, as well as spending many years on the VDMA’s technical policy steering committee and in various of its working groups. Michael Matthesius is very much looking forward to taking up his new role: “Time after time, Theben succeeds in combining tradition and almost 100 years of experience with an incredible ability to innovate. We are currently seeing really strong technological trends emerging in a number of fields, and building automation is one of them. Ongoing digital transformation in combination with the available products and technologies offers huge potential for innovation and is opening up new business models. Theben already has market-ready solutions for the smart building, smart home, smart energy and smart city sectors. Possible applications are increasingly coming together to create network structures. I’m really looking forward to bringing my experience to bear in working together with the team at Theben to plot a course for a truly prosperous and successful future.”
